Organizers of the fifth Triennial Conference of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (ESCOM5) have put out the first call for papers. The conference will be held at the Hanover University of Music and Drama in Germany September 8 through 13, 2003.

The deadline for submissions to ESCOM5 is November 1, 2002. All spoken papers, posters, conference proceedings, and publications must be presented in English. Notification of acceptance will be made by February 1, 2003; revised and final papers for inclusion in the proceedings are due April 1, 2003. Abstracts can be sent by e-mail to [email protected].

Suggested topics for papers include music education; rhythm, meter, and timing; music performance; memory and music; perfect pitch; music development; perception and psychophysics; emotion in music; music, meaning, and language; computational models; ethnomusicology; music and neuroscience; and aesthetic perception and response.

All submissions for spoken papers, posters, demonstration papers, and symposia must include a submission form and a structured abstract. Submission forms must accompany each submission and include the full contact details of the first author (full name, affiliation, postal address for correspondence, e-mail address, phone number, fax number, and so on). Submission forms are available at www.escom5.de.
