Boxfish Robotics has introduced the Luna ROV, a remotely operated vehicle that is designed not for simple underwater observation, but for recording the wonder of the ocean in cinematic quality.
The Boxfish Luna comes with a choice of a Sony ⍺1 or A7SIII camera, with the Sony offering capable of 8K resolution at 30fps, while the A7SIII offers up to 4K at 120fps. Boxfish Robotics says that the Luna features auto stabilization, and is capable of mimicking dolly and crane shots.

Each camera shoots through a choice of two domes, either glass or acrylic, that are suitable for depths up to 80 meters or 500 meters, respectively. Things can get pretty dark that deep, which is why the Luna features two 8,500-lumen, high-CRI, dimmable front-facing lights for making sure everything is visible during filmmaking.
The control console for the Luna features a 17-inch 4K screen as well as a 10-inch sunlight readable secondary navigation display. The console grants the ROV’s pilot with multiple fine-tune parameters for keeping complete control over each shot, including exposure, white balance, zoom, and more. Footage is recorded onto a removeable SSD integrated into the console, allowing for swapping of SSDs while the ROV is underwater.
Boxfish Robotics says that full battery recharge takes 5 hours, and is good for 15 hours of underwater hover. Mileage may vary depending on the ROV’s use. For more information on the Luna, visit Boxfish Robotics.
