IMAX has joined Apple TV and Disney+ by streaming its films in 3D on the Apple Vision Pro. According to users on Reddit, IMAX has made three of its documentary films (A Beautiful Planet, Pandas, and Superpower Dogs) available to rent in 3D this week, with more expected to follow.

Most, but not all, of IMAX’s streaming content for the Apple Vision Pro is available in their  1.43:1 aspect ratio, which allows the streamed content to feel more in line with the IMAX theater experience. The IMAX app for the Apple Vision Pro allows these documentaries to be watched in the front, middle, or back row of a virtual theater for more immersion.

Apple’s new AR headset allows these 3D films to be viewed from home with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and in 4K resolution for the first time.  “Profile 20 is the first Dolby Vision profile which supports MV-HEVC and enables the delivery of Stereoscopic (3D) video. All other Dolby Vision profiles only support monoscopic (2D) video,” comments Dolby. “Currently…Apple Vision Pro is the only device that supports playback of HDR 3D stereoscopic video using Dolby Vision profile 20.”
