Zoom app for the Apple Vision Pro to push virtual meeting immersion

Zoom app will be available on launch day, with additional features coming this spring

Ahead of this Friday’s awaited release of the Apple Vision Pro, Zoom has revealed some information about their app for the mixed-reality device, which will be available on launch.

Users who are participating in a Zoom meeting via their Apple Vision Pro will be represented by a “Persona.” Instead of a cartoonish avatar, this will be an “authentic spatial representation” of the user that will allow other meeting participants to view their facial expressions and hand movements.

Additionally, in the trend of making virtual meetings feel more immersive, the Zoom app will utilize the Apple Vision Pro’s spatial awareness by scaling the virtual meeting size to feel like it is taking place in the user’s room. According to Zoom, this feature is “ideal for users wanting to feel like they are in the same room as their colleagues and customers, without the need for additional physical equipment or setup.”

Zoom also mentioned that several features will be coming to the app this spring, including 3D object sharing, where users will be able to view 3D objects shared in the meeting in the context of their own environment, full Team Chat integration that will further streamline meetings, and an entirely new feature they have named Real-World Pinning, which allows the user to pin up to five other meeting participants in their local environment while removing their backgrounds, making it seem like the meeting is happening right within their own four walls.
