Known chiefly for its OLED offerings, LG has debuted a new generation of LCD TVs. The MRGB95B, MRGB9M, and MRGB85B models were first unveiled last December, and have just become available in the North American market.
Surprisingly, LG is still positioning its OLED models as flagship offerings, not its new micro RGB line. The company’s next-gen LCD models are split into two groups: micro RGB and mini RGB. The chief difference between the two is the lack of a red LED in the “mini” panels, where red is instead created through filtering.
As expected, the micro RGB lineup comes with panels complete with red, green, and blue LEDs. Recently, Sony unveiled its line of “True RGB” models, which use the same alternative red backlight technique found in LG’s mini RGB models.
