Following the groundbreaking success of the Las Vegas Sphere, Los Angeles is eyeing its own spherical landmark. The West Hollywood Planning Commission’s Design Review Subcommittee is scheduled to review plans for “The Sphere on Sunset” November 9th.
The proposed project would demolish an existing café, news stand, and video screens, to construct a broadcast venue that would be housed in a 49-foot glass sphere, accented with large-scale curved LED screens. To be located in West Hollywood’s famous Sunset Strip, the project is planned by Sunset View Plaza and designed by Saee Studio, who frames the sphere as a “destination” that will feature interactive, broadcast-themed elements to attract visitors.
The sphere would overlook a pedestrian plaza and house a broadcast facility for podcasts and on-air productions. The production facilities would be located on the upper level of the building, covered by a semi-enclosed roof terrace and public viewing area. The lower levels would be occupied by the building’s reception area, green room, and prep rooms.
