Samsung Display reveals timeline for $3 billion 8.6G OLED plant

Full-scale production slated to begin in 2026

Samsung Display announced last year that, following their decision to stop producing LCD panels, they would be investing roughly $3 billion to build a new 8.6G OLED manufacturing plant. The company has now announced that the first installations for the plant have begun, and full-scale production is slated to start in 2026.

FlatpanelsHD reports that the new plant will have an output roughly 10 million A6 panels per year. Samsung Display has commented that the IT panels produced by the new facility will be the “highest-generation line in the world” when production begins.

Samsung issues statement on reports of “panel lottery” in upcoming TVs

“Samsung Display recently completed the clean room construction in the new line, and started with the introduction of the deposition necessary to make OLED organic materials into display pixels, install major facilities within the year, and start a full-scale mass production system from 2026,” says Samsung Display, according to FlatpanelsHD.

The new timeline for Samsung Display’s factory comes shortly after announcements by BOE and LG Display that they will be investing in 8.6G plants. BOE revealed at the end of last year that it aims to prepare for a projected increase in OLED demand in the IT sector by building a $9 billion 8.6G plant; the first of its kind in China. LG Display has said that part of its $971 million OLED expansion will involve the creation of an 8.6G facility that will have an output  7500-15000 mother glasses for OLED panels on a monthly basis.
