Manufacturers have begun to announce that a software update will be rolling out to enable Dolby Vision 2 on TVs. The timing of this update varies by manufacturer, with Hisense telling FlatpanelsHD that the update could come as early as the end of Q2 of this year, while Philips and TCL have reported a timeline of “late 2026.”
“Hisense, TCL and Philips have announced plans to release a wide range of Dolby Vision 2 enabled TVs globally by the end of the year, with Peacock and Canal+ committed to delivering content,” Dolby said in a recent financial report.
Marek Maciejewski, product development director for TCL Europe, commented at a launch event that existing titles will be converted to Dolby Vision 2 upon the technology’s release. Studios are not expected to begin mastering for Dolby Vision 2 until at least next year.
