TCL launches its own colossal microLED TV

The TCL X11H Max measures 163 inches with 4K resolution

Following in the footsteps of the Samsung microLED TV and LG Magnit, TCL has thrown its hat into the ring by launching a supersized, ultra-expensive microLED TV.

Initially a China-exclusive release, the TCL X11H Max boasts a colossal 163-inch display and a price tag to match– 800,000 yuan, about $110,000 USD. The X11H Max is a true direct-view 4K microLED TV, which TCL says packs in 24.88 million LEDs and features a peak brightness of 10,000 nits.

Audio isn’t being neglected either, but at this price point it certainly shouldn’t be. TCL describes the X11H Max’s built-in sound system as an expandable  6.2.2 + 7.1.4 channel solution.

MicroLED remains to be an aspirational goal for practical large-scale displays, but its hefty production cost makes it prohibitively expensive for all but the most wealthy consumers. Still, TCL’s microLED TV serves as a proof-of-concept by joining the ranks of other tech giants like Samsung and LG Display.

For comparison, the Samsung microLED TV measures 110-inches with a launch price of $155,000, and the LG Magnit features a 136-inch display and launched for $300,000. TCL’s offering certainly packs more bang-for-the-buck, but until those prices come down considerably, it will most likely remain a concept that the market is not quite ready for.
