As major tech companies are scrambling to leverage recent breakthroughs in AI to create a functional, task-0riented humanoid robot, China’s UBTech has thrown its hat in the ring by revealing its Walker S robot, complete with reasoning abilities and speech. UBTech has been developing robots in one form or another for years, but this new variant of the “Walker service bot” was developed in partnership with Baidu to boost its speech and real-time reasoning.
Introducing Sphere’s Very Own Robot: Aura
These AI features are powered by Baidu’s new ERNIE Bot multi-modal AI platform. This allows the robot to respond to human speech with natural speech and minimal latency. The video above shows the robot flexing its chops in conversation, figuring out tasks, and carrying out said tasks, even in the face of obstacles or sudden changes.
