A new roller coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood has caused enough noise complaints from local residents that the park has announced it will be erecting new sound barriers for the ride.
Last Monday, the office of L.A. City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian took to social media that Universal Studios Hollywood would install “two additional sound barriers to help reduce noise” around the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster, with construction on the new structures expected to finish up early next month.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift opened late July, and is notably the park’s first outdoor coaster. The ride didn’t elicit any complaints during the testing phase, but once park guests were allowed on the ride, local residents took note.
According to Universal, current measures to limit noise include pea gravel to soak up sound coming from the ride itself, as well as a sound wall measuring more than 900 feet, and two half-pipe sound shields.
