Fourier Intelligence has revealed its new GR-2 humanoid robot, which includes a slew of upgrades over its previous GR-1 model. Chief among the GR-2’s new features are fully articulating hands, which it uses in the video to stack objects and interact with a touchscreen. Changes have been made to the robot’s entire suite of hardware, with Fourier saying that its new joint configuration lowers its manufacturing cost as well as enhances “the robot’s ability to transition from AI simulation to real-world applications.” Coming in at 5’9″, the GR-2’s carrying capacity is only about 6.6 lbs per arm, meaning it most likely won’t be doing any heavy lifting at warehouses. Instead, Fourier is positioning the GR-2 for applications in security checkpoints, medical care, and aid for elderly patients.
