Xreal’s AR glasses float a 330-inch screen before your eyes

Xreal, an AR-focused company that was started by former employees of Google, AMD, and Magic Leap, is launching two different models of AR glasses that give the wearer access to a large virtual screen that blends in with their natural surroundings.

Formerly known as nReal, Xreal was founded in 2017, and are no strangers to augmented reality wearables. They claim their previous model was “the best-selling consumer AR glasses on the market,” and the new Air 2 and Air 2 Pro models are set to bring even further upgrades.

The glasses, which tether to a source device such as a laptop or smartphone via USB-C, take advantage of Sony’s newest 0.55-inch Micro-OLED panels, displaying content in 1080p in each eye. The glasses virtual screen is blown up to a huge 330 inches diagonal, with a refresh rate up to 120Hz. The Pro model has the added benefit of allowing the user to choose how much ambient light is allowed through, from fully transparent, to a blackout setting designed for full immersion.

For the new Air 2 and Air 2 Pro, Xreal says they have focused on making the glasses lighter and more comfortable for extended sessions. To this end, the new models are 10% lighter and 10% thinner, weighing 72g and 75g, respectively.

The Xreal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro are available for preorder for $399 and $449, with shipping expected to begin next month.
