Barco has announced the release of its new LED-lit rear-projection videowalls. According to the company, the OL series of videowalls presents significant improvements over Barco's previous LED projection offerings.

Barco officials say the OL rear projectors come with Sense6, a sensor technology that coordinates across multiple rear-projection modules to provide brightness and color stability over time and across the entire videowall screen. An integrated spectrometer continuously measures brightness and color characteristics of the full visual spectrum. Sense6's algorithms monitor the output of these spectrometers in real time, and then automatically adjust all the projectors of the videowall to generate an image that is most suited for viewing by the human eye, the company says.

A heat management system based on liquid cooling technology counteracts the effects of high-temperatures on the LED light sources. Compared to heat pipe systems, the liquid system can provide an additional 10 degrees of cooling for the LED light source, says the company, doubling the lifetime of the source and reducing noise.

Barco's OL series has a space-saving cube design that measures 17 inches deep, and a front access option, making a more compact control room design possible, according to the company. The projection module is delivered as a pre-installed and pre-aligned unit. Colors and brightness are automatically calibrated. The micro-engine doesn't require an alignment stage, because the imager is motorized, the company says.
