Chyron, a video graphics device manufacturer in Melville, N.Y., has announced that one of America's leading higher-education institutions, Western Kentucky University (WKU), has purchased an HX200 HD/SD-switchable graphics system. The HX200 is housed in the studio control room of WKU's television station, WKYU-PBS, a PBS affiliate that serves the south-central Kentucky region.

Following installation of the HX200 in September, WKU has already produced four episodes of its live-to-tape public affairs program, Outlook with Barbara Deeb, and 2006 Election Forums featuring candidates for local and state races, broadcast live. Already a Chyron customer, WKYU-PBS uses an LEX graphics system in its mobile broadcast unit.

"Chyron is the industry standard and that gives students the best experience for the future," says Jack Hanes, director of public broadcasting. "Once we fully covert to high-definition television, we will utilize the HX200 for all studio taped and live production graphic elements."

"The HX200 allows students to become acquainted with a broadcast graphics system that is used by major broadcasters worldwide. We are delighted that WKU has chosen Chyron for its production installation and look forward to seeing the HD capabilities utilized in the future," adds Kevin Prince, Chyron's chief operating officer.

WKYU-PBS houses a premiere television production facility, producing high-quality programs and videotapes for public broadcast, for the university and for outside clients. The station enhances educational opportunities at WKU by offering media students the chance to train alongside experienced station professionals.

WKYU-PBS reaches an audience of more than 250,000 people in 11 counties and provides a full range of broadcasts, including locally produced informational, public affairs and college sports programming, documentaries, and children's programs.
