BenQ’s SmartEco(TM) Technology Brings Pure Brilliance and Smarter Savings to Projection Solutions

Enhanced Eco Modes Increase Lamp Life up to 10,000 Hours and Reduce Power Consumption by up to 80 Percent

ORLANDO, Fla. — InfoComm — June 11, 2013 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of digital lifestyle innovations and global DLP(R) projector leader, today announced that its energy-saving SmartEco(TM) technology will be available with new expanded features across all product lines. Designed to provide energy efficiencies without compromising picture quality, the power-saving technology now includes new modes such as ImageCare, LampCare, and LumenCare, which build on BenQ’s existing Economic mode to dynamically adjust lamp power, provide longer lamp life, and lower projectors’ total cost of ownership (TCO).

BenQ’s revolutionary SmartEco technology automatically adjusts lamp settings according to ambient brightness and user content using an integrated software solution. As a result, projectors retain an optimum color spectrum and provide improved contrast ratios while ultimately reducing energy consumption. Viewers experience crisp images, maximum light intensity, and longer lamp life which further reduce TCO. For instance, in Normal Mode, BenQ projectors deliver up to 4,500 hours of lamp life at 100 percent brightness, while switching to the existing Economic Mode increases lamp life to 6,000 hours by lowering lamp power to 80 percent. With the introduction of BenQ’s newest SmartEco modes, lamp power is adjusted continuously, preserving maximum brightness and quality while lowering energy usage.

With BenQ’s new ImageCare Mode, lamp power is dynamically adjusted between 100 and 30 percent, preserving the brightness and image integrity of Normal Mode while increasing lamp life to 6,500 hours. Using the new LampCare function, BenQ projectors dynamically adjust lamp power between 80 and 20 percent, offering high contrasts and an incredible 10,000 hours of maximum lamp life. The third new function, BenQ’s LumenCare Mode, initially locks power consumption at 80 percent before gradually raising power to ensure 2,000 hours of constant brightness and up to 6,000 hours of total lamp life. In all three modes, users experience lower operating costs, less maintenance, and better performance — especially in high-usage settings such as business and education environments.

Other BenQ SmartEco improvements include an “Eco Blank” mode which allows users to blank out the screen whenever projection isn’t needed — saving up to 80 percent of lamp power — and a “No Source Detected” mode which automatically lowers brightness to 30 percent when no display has been detected for more than three minutes. In “Standby” mode, BenQ devices also lower power consumption to less than 0.5W during periods of inactivity.

“As users demand more eco-friendly solutions, BenQ is committed to developing products that balance performance, innovation, and savings,” said Bob Wudeck, Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at BenQ America Corp. “With the addition of new features to our successful SmartEco technology and the development of next-generation functions, we are redefining how education, business, and home theater consumers experience energy savings with their electronic equipment. The result is a lower total cost of ownership for our customers without conceding on image quality, simplicity, and overall enjoyment.”

BenQ’s SmartEco ImageCare technology is now available across existing projector lines, while the new LampCare mode will be available on upcoming M Series and S Series projectors starting to ship in June 2013. SmartEco LumenCare technology will be offered on select Q4 2013 models.
