Video Ghost phantom power system captured the attention of IBC’s hugely popular “What Caught My Eye” strand on opening day of the premier annual event for global professionals engaged in content creation, management and delivery. The manufacturer of compact, cost-effective equipment for live and post-production, added the honour to Video Ghost’s growing collection of awards that already includes the prestigious Mario from TV Technology, and a Pick Hit from Broadcast Engineering.
IBC’s “What Caught My Eye” gives attendees the inside track on product and trends rocking the exhibition floor. Each morning a different industry expert, chosen for their unique perspective, shares their insight into the news, hot business issues or flag up interesting areas or demonstrations. BHV Broadcast’s Video Ghost was one of ten innovations featured in the “What Caught My Eye: Cameras, Where to Start?” session presented by Alan Roberts, and produced and chaired by David Dawson on Saturday, 8 September. Alan Roberts, an eminently qualified and respected industry expert in the realm of film and television images, drew upon his vast experience as a consultant to broadcasters and manufacturers on a world-wide scale to uncover gems on the exhibition floor with “star” potential.
BHV Broadcast’s Video Ghost was identified for its ability to bring phantom power to the digital video world. Developed as a low-cost, reliable alternative to traditional batteries, the unit provides a hefty 65 watts of power at 12V for camera head-ends and remote monitors using the existing serial digital video coaxial cable. Equally at home with SD or HD signals, it can also be used to power composite to SDI converters at the camera, avoiding significant signal degradation suffered by composite video over distances. At IBC, BHV introduced the V-lock universal mounting system as Video Ghost’s newest feature.
At IBC, BHV Broadcast also highlighted Syntax Essence, a new low-cost version of the popular and award-winning Syntax up/cross/down converter; an enhanced version of TallyHo!, a wireless tally indicator system that was featured in “What Caught My Eye” at IBC in 2010; the miniature three-input, broadcast specification Callisto Micro SDI mixer; and the award-winning Proteus multi-format, multi-purpose, motion-adaptive standards converter.
