Biamp Systems Tesira(R) Brings Interactive Audio to Queensland University of Technology

DSP processor creates ambient soundscapes and audio response behind the world’s largest multi-touch display

BEAVERTON, Oregon — Aug. 27, 2014 — Biamp Systems, a leading provider of innovative, networked media systems, announced that Tesira(R), the company’s flagship digital signal processor (DSP)-based media system, was selected for the Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) state-of-the-art The Cube project, a cutting-edge interactive learning and display space. Installed in the foyer of the Australian university’s Science and Engineering Centre, the colossal two-story video wall provides visitors, students, and staff with real-time animations and soundscapes that bring a world of scientific exploration to life.

Designed to showcase the university’s science and technology capabilities, the AU$3.5 million structure is the world’s largest interactive multi-touch installation. Standing over two stories tall and 46 feet wide, The Cube allows users to engage with various interactive applications such as a massive virtual reef with underwater wildlife, a 3D eco-driving simulation, and a digital physics playroom. To satisfy the installation’s unique acoustic requirements and provide soundscapes that ensure onscreen animations come to life, integrator ProAV Solutions selected the award-winning Biamp(R) Tesira audio processor.

“Creating such a compelling AV installation meant assembling a sound system that could follow animated video content within an extremely demanding matrix environment,” said Philip Holtum, Managing Director at ProAV Solutions. “Integrated with over 25 hidden element dipole speakers, Biamp’s Tesira provides a unique combination of flexible audio DSP configurations and unparalleled processing power — providing the ambient sounds and audio-enabled feedback that was needed to give The Cube’s users a truly engaging experience.”

Using 100 inputs and 100 outputs, Biamp’s Tesira networked digital signal processor provides The Cube with audio transport and routing to deliver the enveloping audio experience behind the installation’s highly interactive displays. Continuing Biamp’s legacy for creating configurable and customizable solutions, the company’s Tesira system allows integrators to easily extend DSP audio to any large-scale installation through flexible options such as AVB (AVB-1 card), CobraNet(R) (SCM-1 card), and Dante(TM) (DAN-1 card) compatibility within a single chassis — offering both incredible scalability and long-term system flexibility.

“Universities and other large-scale institutions are increasingly implementing inspiring AV installations that strengthen their positions as innovation leaders,” Matthew Packer, Asia Pacific Regional Director at Biamp Systems. “This has created a rising demand for powerful audio systems that can provide authentic soundscapes that are both lifelike and acoustically optimized for the environment. We are extremely pleased that our Tesira system has allowed The Cube’s designers, engineers, and AV integrator to create such an impressive project.”
