Black Box Introduces Compact-Design Fiber Optic Video Extender

The new fiber optic video extender from Black Box, Video Extender – 4K, HDMI, USB, Fiber, extends Full HD video and audio signals up to 1000 feet (4K UHD up to 130 feet) over a single multi-mode fiber optic cable. Designed for AV and KVM systems, the mini form factor (1.6″H x 2.2″W x 0.6″D) transmitter and receiver fit easily behind screens.
The extender is ideal for a wide range of applications. It ensures a reliable, economical means to distribute up to 4K UHD video and audio extreme distances. The transmitter and receiver provide full optical isolation, which prevents power line transients from being transmitted through medical equipment. And in harsh, industrial environments, the fiber optic cabling provides immunity from radio-frequency interference (RFI) and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Integration is easy and cost effective. The transmitter and receiver only require a single strand of flexible, standard multi-mode fiber cable with industry standard LC connectors—a cost effective and widely available solution. “It’s a good choice where cabling availability is a limitation,” says Erik Indresøvde, Global Video & Multimedia Product Manager at Black Box.
The extender has two ports: HDMI and USB (supports USB 1.1 devices). It is interfaced powered directly from the HDMI or USB interface. The extender’s second port enables direct connectivity to USB peripherals (i.e., touchscreen, web camera, keyboard, and mouse), simplifying integration and giving users freedom to install USB devices anywhere.
