Dirac and ASUS Collaborate on the New ASUS ROG Phone 3 to Achieve New Caliber of Immersive Sound for Mobile Gaming

The ASUS ROG Phone 3, featuring Dirac speaker and headphone optimization technologies for high-performance audio experiences, earns high score (75) for audio quality from DXOMARK.

Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac and ASUS, a global innovator of phones, computers and electronics, have brought to market the first category-redefining product of their new collaboration: the ASUS ROG Phone 3.

Designed especially for mobile gaming, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 sets a new standard for smartphone experience, including cutting-edge sound quality through its integration of Dirac’s immersive audio and optimization technologies for the smartphone’s built-in speakers and connected headphones.

“Today’s flagship smartphones allow users to do more than ever before, including online gaming – where high-quality audio is as critical as visuals, processing power, and other notable features,” said Mats Oberg, Chief Sales Officer, Dirac. “ASUS understands that, which is why it teamed up with Dirac to design the digital audio system for their latest device. We’re proud of what we’ve together accomplished, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration for years to come.”

Dirac’s patented immersive audio solution for built-in speakers is based on its years of experience in HiFi and automotive audio, and debuted for smartphones in 2018. It employs advanced MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) technology to enable a phone’s primary speakers and receiver speaker – responsible for sound during phone calls – to work together and produce vastly superior audio.

By co-optimizing all the speakers’ impulse and frequency response, Dirac’s immersive audio solution creates a broader acoustical experience that appears to the listener like a surround sound system. Even though the smartphone speakers are within inches of each other, the listener hears audio channels that are isolated, separated, and uncompromised.

Furthermore, Dirac’s sound optimization solution upgrades headphone sound quality by measuring and correcting the connected headphone’s impulse and frequency response – improving musical staging, clarity, voice intelligibility, bass fidelity and creating a perfectly balanced sound range.

The Dirac sound optimization solution is now compatible with ROG headphones such as the ROG Cetra, ROG Delta, ROG Strix Go 2.4, and ROG Theta 7.1, amongst others.

DXOMARK, the world’s leading source of independent audio and image quality measurements and ratings, gave the ROG Phone 3 a score of 75 for audio quality, placing it above virtually all other smartphone makes and models.

“Gamers have exceedingly high standards when it comes to their technology, which is why we had to pull out all of the stops with the new ASUS ROG Phone 3,” stated Bryan Chang, General Manager, smartphone business unit at ASUS. “Collaborating with Dirac allowed us to not only to ensure that the device’s audio was every bit as impressive as its other features – but create a smartphone that boasts the market’s most impressive sound system.”

The new ASUS ROG Phone 3, available now, is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G Mobile Platform, enabling desktop-level gaming with ultra-realistic graphics in a high-performance smartphone. Despite the addition of a 5G modem and antennas, it’s the same physical size as its predecessors and still includes the biggest battery of any flagship phone — 6000mAh — for all-day gaming. It also comes with a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 10-bit HDR10+ support and a 144Hz refresh rate.

Notably, the ASUS ROG Phone 3’s GameFX audio comprises of upgraded speakers with seven magnets for more power and less distortion. One of the speakers is slightly larger, with an extra-long throw for helping generate deeper bass notes.

“However, the real boost in sound quality comes from our new partnership with Dirac, which is one of, if not the best when it comes to digital signal processing,” concluded Chang. “Together we have achieved a sound experience that is truly remarkable.”
