Kelley Technologies helped transform the Azure swimming pool at the Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas into an outdoor “day club”? with a JBL loudspeaker system.
NORTHRIDGE, California – The Palazzo Hotel, located on Las Vegas Boulevard, wanted to create a dance club environment by transforming its luxurious Azure swimming pool into an outdoor “day club.”? To help accomplish this feat, Kelley Technologies of Las Vegas installed a high-end audio system featuring HARMAN’s JBL loudspeakers.
“JBL loudspeakers were chosen for this project thanks to their frequency response, power handling, and—most important for an outdoor club—weatherproofing. Since the existing infrastructure already used BSS products, it made sense to stick with them as well as Crown due to its built-in DSP with power handling,”? said Art Martinez, Sales Manager at Kelley Technologies.
The sound reinforcement system around the perimeter of the Azure pool includes: 13 JBL AM7212/00-WRX 2-way, full-range, weatherized loudspeakers; two PD5212/64-WRX 2-way, 60 x 40-degree weatherized loudspeakers; four ASB6118-WRX single 18-inch, weatherized subwoofers; and four ASB6128-WRX dual 18-inch, weatherized subwoofers. Powering the system are four Crown IT-12000HD amplifiers, along with nine Crown CTs600’s, eight CTs3000’s and three CTS4200’s amplifiers. Signal processing is handled by BSS Audio BLU-800 and BLU-100 devices.
There are many limitations and requirements when configuring an outdoor install that is meant to replicate an indoor club scene. The Palazzo Hotel wanted to ensure that minimal sound reflected off the guests’ hotel rooms, and did not want to change the atmosphere for non-club-going hotel guests. The hotel also wanted the “day club”? to maintain a high-end appearance that would live up to the Palazzo’s reputation as an upscale location along the Vegas Strip. To accomplish this, Kelley Technologies seamlessly blended the speakers into the surrounding pool structures and plants. They also painted the speaker boxes to make them hardly noticeable.
“Weather is obviously a factor in Las Vegas,”? Martinez stated. “Temperatures reach above the hundreds and there can be heavy rain and other weather-related issues. JBL’s weatherized speakers ensure that they would last through all seasons and be sustainable for years to come. There was simply no other option.”?
“Overall, everything turned out better than we could have expected, and Palazzo is extremely happy,”? said Martinez. “It is by far the most ‘bumping’ pool in Vegas and nothing else can even compare. “It looked good, sounded good, and will be one of the most fun day clubs on the strip.”?
