Trevor Lawrence Jr. Captures Grammy-Nomination with Terrace Martin and Plays Attack on Titan Live at Carnegie Hall with AUDIX Microphones

“I’ve never had anything drum-wise sound that clean. It just sounds incredible.”

Los Angeles, CA (February 25,  2026)  Drummer, producer, and songwriter Trevor Lawrence Jr. (TLJ) stands as a vital force in contemporary music, carrying a legacy that spans multiple genres and collaborations with icons such as Dr. Dre, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, and most recently his Grammy-nominated work with Terrace Marin and Kenyon Dixon on Come As You Are. Known for his unmistakable feel, technical depth, and unique modern vision, Lawrence Jr. relies on AUDIX microphones including the D6X, D6, D2, SCX25A, F9, PDX520, and PDX720 to capture his intricate sound, from the studio, to his TrevBeats Show podcast, to live stages. His dedication to sonic integrity recently culminated in two sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall as part of the massive Attack on Titan tour.

Music runs deep in the Lawrence family. Trevor’s parents were original members of Stevie Wonder’s Wonder Love band, and his grandfather, a member of the gospel group the Dixie Hummingbirds, who won a Grammy with Paul Simon for Love Me Like a Rock in 1974. Initially starting as a jazz drummer, TLJ says his drumming roots “came from swinging.” His mother, who had wanted to be a drummer herself but was denied, ensured that if she had a son, he would be a drummer.

Trevor has continued this storied family legacy, having been associated with Grammy-nominated and winning projects for over 30 years. This year, he celebrates two nominations for his collaboration with friends and long-time colleagues Terrace Martin and Kenyon Dixon. Their album, Come As You Are, which incorporates elements of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and gospel, is nominated for the Best Progressive R&B Album Grammy. Additionally, the song WeMaj, which TLJ co-wrote and produced, is nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

When it comes to capturing his dynamic performances, Trevor is adamant about using AUDIX, particularly for his demanding live schedule. He serves as the musical director for the orchestral performance of the anime franchise Attack on Titan, and his mic setup for that gig is all AUDIX. Their Beyond the Walls World Tour, launched in April 2025 and concluded its run with two sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall in November. “When I am in control of my live sound, you won’t see anything else but AUDIX,” Trevor states, adding, “Because with AUDIX, I know exactly what’s going to happen.”

For his studio work and online content creation, Trevor’s drum kit is fully miked with AUDIX. His meticulous setup includes the D6X on the kick drum, noting the microphone’s ability to “produce a great bass drum sound.” He employs two D6 mics on the floor toms and the “tiny” clip-on D2 mics for rack toms. Trevor praises the D2, noting that “they are so small and out the way, but yet they sound incredible.” For cymbals, he uses the SCX-25 lollipops as overheads and positions an F9 pencil mic under the hi-hat. His snare drum is miked underneath with a PDX 520.

Beyond the drum kit, Lawrence Jr. uses AUDIX PDX720 to facilitate his work as host on The TrevBeats Show, a multimedia platform that covers music, technology, AI, musicians’ rights, politics, and gear. The podcast’s core mission is “to start a real conversation” and offer more than the just the playing you find on so many musician-led podcasts. He aims to “empower the music community with actionable knowledge” and currently focuses on interviewing guests with a through-line discussion about A.I. in every episode.

Trevor’s choice of AUDIX stems from the transparency and functionality of the products. He holds the brand in high regard, believing they have “emerged as one of the best players in the microphone world, for sure.” Sonically, he notes, “AUDIX microphones are just transparent. I’m never worried about having to fix it in the mix or anything being overhyped. I’ve never had anything drum-wise sound that clean. It just sounds incredible.”

“I have to say above everything else, all my decisions while recording are about what the music says it needs me to do, “Trevor concludes. “Nothing is set in stone. I listen to my drums in the room and that guides me. But no matter what, my AUDIX microphones enable me to capture whatever the song is saying.”
