Symetrix DSP is Out of this World

This week at InfoComm 2010, Symetrix unveiled its new Jupiter DSP, which Paul Roberts, direct of sales and marketing, called a “zero-learning-curve” digital signal processing product.
Inspired by the Apple iPhone’s apps, Jupiter DSP is a turnkey system available in three hardware options: 4×4, 8×8, and 12×4. The inputs and outputs are all analog and each input has mic/line switching. Supported external controllers include Symetrix ARC wall panels, binary or analog control voltage inputs and outputs, and IP control of nearly all app parameters.
Symetrix provides an online library of free, downloadable apps. There are currently nine apps available, but Roberts says the company will develop more on a regular basis and plans to release new ones as soon as July 5. So far, Jupiter DSP’s apps include four auto mixers, an SPL transit app, a serial mixer, and sound reinforcement, among others.
The free software used to configure Jupiter hardware runs on the Windows operating system. Within the main application shell, a user selects an app. The chosen app’s main screen presents a view of the overall signal flow and processing modules. Clicking on a module reveals a graphic representation of the audio processing. With no programming or system design necessary, all a sound professional needs to do, according to Roberts, is “dial in the audio.”
Symetrix’s Jupiter DSP is made in the United States and began shipping Tuesday with an MSRP ranging from $1,649 to $1,239.
