A variety of videowalls and related products.

This month, we take a look at a variety of videowalls and related products. As flat-panel costs continue to drop, videowalls are becoming a more viable solution for digital signage and video displays. Digital content players now have the ability to store, retrieve, and play back a large amount and variety of video content to keep videowalls looking interesting and refreshed.

SOURCES/SCALERS/CONTROLLERS

Analog Way’s VIO 4K is a multi-format converter with seven inputs that allows it to convert many signals including Dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, HDMI, 6G-SDI optical, and analog into output formats up to 4K 30Hz. This converter includes three slots for optional I/O modules, two for video processing with capacity to handle formats up to 4K 60Hz 4:4:4, and one for audio processing with XLR connectors. With all options, VIO 4K features nine inputs and three outputs. The VIO 4K is well suited for non-standard signal management as found with LED walls.

Aurora Multimedia IPX-TC1 Transceiver

The IPX-TC1 4K IP AV streaming transceiver from Aurora Multimedia is the AV market’s first 4K2K transceiver with zero compression and latency, according to the company. With a single unit configurable as a transmitter or receiver, matrix capabilities exceeding 128 by 128, breakaway audio switching, and videowall capabilities, it lets integrators bring scalable, 4K uncompressed audio and video to an IP streaming environment. Ideal for AV signal distribution, routing, control, and videowall processing applications, it securely sends audio, video, and data to setups of any size using standard 10G Ethernet fiber and copper switches, and ultimately replaces a long list of traditional components, thereby cutting complexity and cost from any AV application.

AV Stumpfl FHD Player

The new AV Stumpfl FHD Player is a tiny solid-state video player designed for 24/7 operation. Multiple FHD Players can be frame synchronized via IP networks using a dedicated synchronization protocol, and video contents can be played in a seamless loop mode and managed with the player’s front-end GUI. Its small form factor makes it easy to hide behind a videowall.

Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K Extreme

The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K Extreme is an advanced Thunderbolt and PCIe video capture and playback solution. It features many type of video connections including quad link 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0, and others, plus it includes a built-in, multi-format hardware codec. It’s designed to work with the highest-quality and highest-frame-rate video, all the way up to 3D stereoscopic 4K at 2160p60.

BrightSign 4K 4K1142 Player

The BrightSign 4K is a fan-less, solid-state, commercial 4K player with three models. The lineup all have the same features as the base model, the 4K242 Networked Basic Interactive, which plays native 4K, H.265, 10-bit video @60fps via HDMI 2.0, and can dual decode one 4K and one full HD (1920×1080@60p) video simultaneously. It also features POE+, content support for many formats, and built-in wired networking. The 4K1042 Networked Multi-control Interactive player model adds GPIO, serial, USB 3.0, and Ethernet ports, supports touch and swipe screen functionality, S/PDIF output, and Geo-Fencing for location-based content. The premium model, 4K1142 Networked Multi-Control Interactive and Live HDTV, adds live HDTV via HDMI in playback support and features simultaneous playback from local, streaming, and live TV content sources. An optional wireless module for all models is also available.

Christie Spyder X20 Video Processor

The Christie Spyder X20 video processor supports up to 32 independent windows, 16 mixers, or any combination thereof. The Integrated Operators Monitor allows users to see what the audience sees and preview what they will see next, all on a single monitor. Also, the system’s resolution independence allows integrators to use multiple projectors to increase pixel space and resolution beyond what any single display device could handle. The Christie Spyder X20 adapts to widescreen (edge-blended), single-, and multi-screen discreet applications while permitting unrestricted window and picture-in-picture (PIP) placement.

Crestron DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C Receiver

Featuring the first and only 4K/60Hz scaler on the market, the Crestron DM-RMC-4K-SCALER-C provides 4K scaling and videowall processing all in one device. It provides extensive zoom capability and advanced bezel compensation on its output to display just a portion of the source image. Using this feature, multiple units can be combined to configure videowalls composed of up to 64 individual displays, with no additional hardware required.

DVIGear DisplayNet Switch

DVIGear’s DisplayNet is an entirely new concept for AV distribution that leverages proven 10GbE Ethernet technology to switch, extend, and distribute uncompressed AV signals in realtime with resolutions up to 4K (UHD). DisplayNet delivers unprecedented levels of scalability, versatility, and reliability with no frame latency, compression, or artifacts. The first-generation DisplayNet products (DN-100 series) support point-to-point extension, limitless matrix switching, as well as basic videowall capabilities without any scaling. However, the DisplayNet roadmap for 2016 includes scaling in both the transmitter and receiver devices. This will enable support for a wider range of applications such as multiviewer displays, as well as robust videowall capabilities.

Extron Quantum Connect

The Extron Quantum Connect 82 and Quantum Connect 84 are HDCP-compliant videowall processors with HDMI inputs and outputs that support resolutions up to 1920×1200 and 1080p/60. Quantum Connect is ideal for videowalls with two to four displays. The series can upscale and downscale images without degrading quality. Quantum Connect processors are available in two configurations featuring eight HDMI inputs, and two or four HDMI outputs. The series features a 10Gbps Realtime Asymmetric Packetized Transfer (RAPT) video/graphic bus that allows for simultaneous processing of numerous, high-resolution input signals while maintaining realtime operational performance, as well as optimal image quality at full frame rates.

Gefen 4K Ultra HD Extender

The new 4K Ultra HD extender from Gefen delivers 1080p full HD up to 150 meters over a single Cat-5 cable, an improvement of 50 meters over previous solutions. Ultra HD content at 4K resolutions (3840×2160@60Hz) can be sent up to 70 meters over a Cat-5 cable or up to 100 meters over a Cat-6 cable. A 10/100BaseT Ethernet connection is provided on the receiver unit at the display side, allowing IP connectivity without additional hardware or cabling required. RS-232 and bidirectional IR are transmitted along the same cable, offering convenient options to control both the source and display from local and remote locations. Bidirectional POL (Power Over Line) increases installation flexibility by facilitating power to either the sender or receiver.

High Resolution Systems Video Wall Controller

High Resolution SystemsVideo Wall Controller features the ability to save layouts, drag and drop sources, pinch and zoom layers, and recall of existing layouts. Designed for touch and mobile, the system is browser based, works with most video processors, and integrates with the HRS Enterprise Control System.

ICS Technology WC2200

The ICS Technology WC2200 is designed for conference rooms, information centers, or lobbies anywhere a customer wants to mount a single or double large high-resolution display. With the arrival of the 4K large screens 65in. and larger, there has been a need for a unit that can output 4K resolution and capture multiple inputs to be displayed. This gives the user the most flexibility with a single large screen to be used similar to a videowall with multiple images displayed simultaneously. The WC2200 can be configured with two 4K outputs or four 1080P outputs and can capture a variety of inputs HDMI, DVI, VGA, or component from two inputs up to eight inputs. The WC2200 is fully HDCP compliant.

KanexPro SW-VDYWALL Processor

The KanexPro SWVDYWALL is a video processor with four DVI input and four DVI output, which enables you to configure to either a 4×4 videowall or create a 4×1 multi-viewer. This high-performance processor supports image overlapping and output scaling function to meet specific needs. It’s fully compliant with HDCP and supports EDID management. The new Kramer VSM-4x4HFS ProScale seamless matrix switcher is designed for presentation environments and features a unique videowall (2×2) mode, as well as dual display (PIP/P&P) and quad display modes. The videowall mode comes with bezel correction options and offers an impressive performance to price ratio for 2×2 videowalls in retail and sports bar applications. It also includes Pix-Perfect scaling, Kramer’s pixel mapping and scaling technology.

Matrox Mura IPX capture & IP encode/decode Boards

Matrox Mura IPX series is a new line of 4K capture and IP encode/decode boards that let OEMs and AV system builders deliver advanced videowall controllers featuring high-quality, low-bitrate, multichannel 4K, or HD encoding and decoding over standard IP. Designed to work with Mura MPX videowall capture and display boards and Matrox C-Series multi-display graphics cards, Mura IPX packs 4K capture plus high-density encode and decode functionality onto a single PCIe card to simplify integration and reduce installation costs for control rooms, digital signage, and AV presentation systems. The MURA-IPX-I4DF 4K capture and IP decode board provides four HDMI inputs for direct high-resolution 4Kp60 or 2560x1600p60 capture plus H.264 decoding of up to two 4Kp60, four 4Kp30, eight 1080p60, or 16 1080p30 streams. The MURA-IPX-I4EF 4K capture and IP encode/decode board adds H.264 level 5.2 encoding to stream and record content—including videowall sources, displays, or regions of interest—anywhere on the network.

Kramer VSM-4x4HFS ProScale  Matrix Switcher

Combining the fully functional switching capabilities of a matrix and the versatile high-definition capabilities of a converter, SmartAVI’s MXWall is an all-in-one videowall hardware solution. Specifically designed and optimized for the most demanding environments and applications, the MXWall Pro lets users manage and route up to 32 HDMI video sources to 32 HD displays in realtime, 1080p resolution. There is an integrated media player for video, photos, and web browsing. It’s plug-and-play ready and requires no additional drivers or software required.

Tekvox MV4 Processor

The Tekvox MV4 is a universal and user-friendly image analyzing processor with four DVI input ports and four output ports. It is not only a matrix switcher but also a multi-viewer or videowall processor. As a videowall processor, the MV4 is able to zoom in one input image three/four times to the outputs. And as a multi-viewer processor, the MV4 can mix inputs with any combos to one image, and then transfer to all the outputs. It also supports output resolution change, contrast and brightness adjusting, H&V zooming and moving, and bezel adjustment. System control is through its control ports, such as the RS-232 serial port, USB interface, and the TCP/IP network port, or by using the control software, MV4Demo.

DISPLAYS

Barco OverView KVD5521 Display

The Barco OverView KVD5521 near-seamless LCD videowall features Barco’s SenseX automatic color and brightness calibration system that automatically maintains consistently image quality. A unique feature is the optional remote power supplies that are fully redundant and hot swappable by the end-user, which greatly simplifies and reduces maintenance costs, allowing anyone to easily service the equipment. Its sensor controlled brightness and color management system and low power consumption maximize image quality and minimize total cost of ownership.

BenQ PL550 Display

The BenQ 55in. PL550 features a 3.5mm bezel-to-bezel gap—the world’s smallest, according to the company—to create HD content experiences that are entirely seamless to the viewer. To further facilitate large-scale installations, the panel provides HDMI digital daisy-chain capabilities, direct USB flash drive connectivity, Video-Over-Ethernet (VoE), an automated color calibration tool, and Multiple Display Administration (MDA) management and scheduling software tools.

Draper Lace & Grommet Projection Screen

Most videowalls in the recent past focused on bringing displays into a large array, and used the latest versions to create a near-seamless look. That is changing, as more applications are requiring a mullion-less image by using projection and a blend of projected images. With Draper’s Lace & Grommet screen, mullion-less front-and rear-blended projection is possible in very large sizes. Draper’s Lace and Grommet can be made up to 100ft. wide. The 3in. powder-coated black aluminum tube frame can also be curved to custom specifications. It can be flown, wall-mounted, or floor supported. In addition, very tight radii, multi-axis curves, and circular screens are available.

Eiki EK-800U Projector

The Eiki EK-800U single-chip DLP projector with 12,000 ANSI lumen brightness features a 5000:1 (DA:ON) contrast ratio. With a native WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution, the EK-800U provides analog and digital video inputs, including HDBT and 3G HD-SDI, in all color standards up to 1080p. Its 0.96in. DLP imaging system makes it ideal for contemporary large-venue installations. Other notable features include powered zoom and focus, along with vertical and horizontal powered lens shift (V: +- 60 percent, H: +/- 25 percent). Advanced blending, warping, color matching, and portrait mode simplify installation. Customization attributes include a color wheel for high brightness and option for rich color.

Epson PowerLite Pro G6970WU Projector

The Epson PowerLite Pro G6970WU large-venue projector delivers WUXGA performance with full HD support. Its ideal solution for videowall applications as it features 6000 lumens of color brightness and 6000 lumens of white brightness, as well as built-in edge-blending technology and 360-degree projection capabilities for positioning on multiple screens and surfaces. Its also offers simple integration with HDBaseT and HD-SDI inputs for digital input over long runs. Installation is easy and allows for bright, true-to-life color displays using just one projector, making it an ideal alternative to installations where multiple flatpanel displays can’t be supported.

LG VH7B Display

LG VH7B full HD videowall display features a less than 2mm bezel-to-bezel gap. LG’s IPS panel technology allows for impressive color saturation and contrast for off-angle viewing, resulting in a crisp, clear picture from any vantage point. LG’s included software allows the displays to be arranged in up to 15×15 matrix, while installation options become nearly limitless when outside hardware and software is employed. The VH7B series lowers the total cost of ownership with the built-in high-performance system-on-a-chip (SoC), eliminating the need for an external media player. Finally, LG’s webOS for Signage platform enables a variety of web-based applications across multiple platforms, and the ability to write applications using HTML 5.

NEC Display X555UNS Display

NEC Display’s X555UNS is a 55in. ultra-narrow bezel videowall display that has a 3.5mm bezel gap. It uses an S-IPS panel, which the company says, compared to other panel technologies, results in better angled viewing and less color shift along with 10-bit color processing for up to 1.07 billion viewable colors. The display also features FrameComp, which compensates for content lag that is typically seen in larger videowalls with horizontal moving objects. Previously, videowalls were only able to daisy-chain 1080p, but the X555UNS can daisy-chain up to 2160p, allowing 4X the resolution across the entire videowall.

Panasonic TH-55 LFV70 Display

The 55in. Panasonic TH-55LFV70 has a 0.14in. (3.5mm) bezel and 700cd/m² brightness, and creates nearly seamless, vivid images across multiple displays, making it ideal for a multitude of digital signage, public venue, and command and control applications. It features flexible installation and maintenance with Digital Link, a technology based on HDBaseT technology that transmits HDMI signal, uncompressed Full-HD videos, audio and control commands over a single cable daisy-chain connection as well as a “failover and failback” function, which maintains continuous signal distribution even when some inputs are accidentally disrupted. Additionally, the display’s new calibration software ensures natural-appearing images. The optional mount (TY-VK55LV1) saves time and cuts labor costs by making it easier to configure a videowall.

Peerless-AV SmartMount

Designed for modularity, the Peerless-AV SmartMount Portable Videowall Cart 4×3 Configuration (DS-C555-4X3) allows users to create a flawless mobile videowall with displays ranging in size from 46in. to 55in. The DS-C555-4X3 offers an eight-point micro-adjustment to create a seamless alignment without having to use tools. With a 5in. lockable caster, the cart becomes secure for safe and easy movement over flooring surfaces. Ideal for a quick set-up and tear down, the DS-C555-4X3 features a quick-connect latch for adaptors, allowing automatic engagement with mounting rails. Media storage and cable management create a sleek appearance.

Planar DirectLight Display

The Planar DirectLight LED videowall system is a family of seamless, ultra-fine pitch direct view LED videowalls that provide an impressive visual experience, simplified installation and maintenance, and 24×7 reliability for indoor environments. Planar DirectLight LED videowalls are available in four pixel pitches from 1.6 to 3.1 millimeters. The videowalls have mounted depth of less than 4in. Using the Planar DirectLight LED Video Wall Calculator, a free online tool that simplifies the videowall selection process, customers can design and preview a Planar DirectLight LED videowall in advance of purchasing.

Sharp PN-V551 Display

The Sharp 55in. class (54.6in. diagonal) full HD PN-V551 professional LED monitor enables users to build videowalls with ultra-thin 3.5mm bezels that will complement virtually any commercial or public space. It’s Sharp’s first product to use Sharp UCCT (Uniform Color Calibration Technology), which significantly increases uniformity of color without calibration software. To varying degrees, unevenness of color and brightness naturally occurs in LCD displays. To compensate for this, Sharp’s UCCT helps ensure uniformity of color and brightness across the entire LCD monitor by properly adjusting color levels at the pixel level. Four PN-V551 monitors set up in a 2×2 configuration enables users to display every pixel of native 4K Ultra HD (3,840×2,160-pixel) content on the equivalent of a 110in. class screen.

Silicon Core Lavender 1.2mm Display

The Lavender 1.2mm LED display from SiliconCore is uniquely placed in the videowall market due to the incredibly tight pixel pitch it commands. It can achieve full HD resolution at just 110in. and has a viewing distance of less than 1 meter, which is ideal for close proximity and direct view applications for broadcast, control center, or corporate settings. The display is driven by SiliconCore’s unique and patented common cathode design, which replaces the traditional common anode method. The common cathode improves the efficiency of the display, resulting in less power consumption of up to 40 percent, minimal heat output for displays that run cool and need no additional HVAC infrastructure, a longer lifespan of 100,000 hours, and lower total cost of ownership.

Stewart Filmscreen Fideledy Vision LED Image Enhancement System
