Apple apologizes for new iPad ad that some creatives find distasteful

"We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.”

A recent ad to commemorate the launch of Apple’s new OLED iPad Pro line has proved to be divisive, if not downright controversial. Titled “Crush!,” the ad was decried by many online as being dismissive to the creative crowd that Apple is aiming for with the new iPad line. The ad, which was produced in-house by Apple, looks to emphasize the sheer number of features packed into the thinnest iPad ever, but unwittingly offended the sensibilities of many viewers. The backlash has been so apparent that Apple has issued a statement apologizing for the ad.

In a statement to Ad Age, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing Tor Myhren says, “Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world. Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad. We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.”
