Italian designer Paolo Caviglia has developed a modular system capable of building a hi-fi rig that looks like it was constructed of Legos. Each colorful brick actually houses an electronic module capable of communicating through the entire structure.
Called Audio Bricks, the system uses an array of bricks that house PCB holders, power supply modules, structural frames, and double RCA input/output modules. The adapters connect to printed circuit boards to perform tasks, ranging from amplification to Wi-Fi streaming, and everything in-between. Audio Bricks claims that the bricks snap together without tools or glue, and can be rebuilt and reassembled in different ways to make up new configurations.
The entire system has an emphasis on modularity, with the company saying that customers can use the bricks to build a headphone amplifier, loudspeaker, a music center, and more.
Pricing has not announced, with customers encouraged to submit their requests through the Audio Bricks website. Pricing will be based on the complexity, number of bricks required, and adapter types needed to complete the project. Alternatively, pre-built options are available for those who don’t wish do any assembling themselves.
