Brian Eno releases limited-run turntable that doubles as a work of art

Limited to 150 pieces, the Turntable II runs for about $25,000

Influential musician, visual artist, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Brian Eno has released a new follow-up to his 2021 turntable release. Like the previous version, this new release, titled Turntable II, is an exercise in visual art and is available in extremely limited quantities.

Consisting of a round, acrylic-wrapped resin body, and a round, cast acrylic platter, the Turntable II contains LEDs that are programmed to change color slowly, randomly, and independently of one another. This gives the turntable an otherworldly quality that is reminiscent of Eno’s work in ambient music.

“I use the same sorts of generative processes in music as in painting, based on overlapping unsynchronized cycles,” says Eno. “Several overlapping light cycles will keep producing different color balances and blends – and different shadow formations that slowly evolve and never exactly repeat. The process is simple. The results are complex.”

In addition to its body and platter, the Turntable II features a white 8.6” Pro-Ject aluminum tonearm with Ortofon white 2M cartridge, gold-plated RCA connectors, and can play either at 33 or 45 rpm. The Turntable II is limited to 150 pieces signed by Eno and engraved with its edition number. The Turntable II is available for purchase for £20,000 (about $25,215) through London’s Paul Stopler Gallery, though the press release warns that the price will increase as pieces are sold.
