AI algorithms could improve video compression by 5000%

European startup claims they can greatly improve video compression while keeping video quality intact

European startup Deep Render is making the bold claim that it can “save the internet” utilizing AI technology in a way that could have positive effects beyond just the World Wide Web.

Huawei’s NearLink is 6 times faster than Bluetooth, more efficient

Deep Render is looking to chop file sizes exponentially by using AI algorithms to vastly improve video compression while maintaining video quality by “exploiting redundancies in a far more fluid and far more fine-grained” manner. In fact, the company asserts that they currently are able to produce “5x smaller file sizes” and that their method “is already 80% better than state-of-the-art of traditional compression.” Deep Render believes there is much more that can be done, saying that they predict that they can make video compression 50 times more efficient than it is currently.

While these are lofty goals, the startup has been selected for Intel’s Ignite startup accelerator program, and has already received $2.7 million from the European Innovation Council.
