Not to be satisfied by the nearly $2 billion plan to expand Disneyland, Disney World has announced a huge expansion of Magic Kingdom, part of a $60 billion effort across its parks. “It’s probably the largest expansion ever at Magic Kingdom,” remarked Disney’s Michael Hundgen, as reported by CNN.
While the exact theme of the new expanded area has not yet been revealed, Disney employees are reportedly conducting research and design for the expansion, while permits are currently being applied for. The planned new area is said to be about as big as the Star Wars Galaxy Edge area, which is roughly 14 acres large.

The 10-year, $60 billion expansion was announced by Disney last year, when the media conglomerate determined that their theme parks held promising return on investment.

“As I looked at the returns on the invested capital that we made in this business over the 15 years prior to my coming back, it was extraordinarily compelling,” commented Disney CEO Bob Iger during a media event last week. “We should allocate in a direction where we had great returns.”
