Disney reveals Piston Peak National Park

The Cars-themed area will begin construction soon at Walt Disney World in Orlando

While news hit earlier this year that Walt Disney World would be permanently closing down its long-lived Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat attractions to build a new area based on the ‘Cars’ IP, new information on the upcoming space has been revealed. Called Piston Peak National Park, the new area will continue to bridge the areas of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Imagineers have taken to calling the area’s design as “Parkitecture,” emphasizing the natural look and feel of a national park, except, you know, with talking cars.

“From the outside, trees will provide a natural barrier between the off-road rally and other parts of Frontierland and Liberty Square,” says a blog post from Disney Parks. “Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks will be nestled along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall and soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of our off-road rally. ”

Also revealed was an artist’s rendering of what the area will look like. Disney Parks announced that the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat attractions will be closed beginning July 7 while work on Piston Peak National Park commences.
