To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Disneyland’s opening, the California park opened a brand new attraction at its Main Street Opera House. Titled “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” the new show walks guests through the life of Disney, culminating in his plans for a new project in Florida that would eventually become Walt Disney World. Featuring a 15-minute film that includes some of Disney’s very own home videos, the show debuted a new lifelike animatronic of Disney himself in a replica of his office. Disney moves fluidly as he speaks via real voice recordings– no AI recreations here. The Disney Company claims that this very audio-animatronic technology was an invention of Walt Disney himself, which he first showcased 60 years ago with a model of Abraham Lincoln at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

“Creating our first Walt figure is an idea that’s been whispered in the hallowed halls of Imagineering for years, decades, even,” Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said while speaking at Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase. “We just had to wait for innovation to catch up with our dreams. And we’re finally ready.”
