For the first time ever, Fox Sports will be using a fleet of aerial production drones to help cover the World Series. Previously used during production coverage for All-Star and Field of Dreams games, it will be the drones’ World Series debut.
The three first-person view drones comprise a custom fleet developed and operated by Beverly Hills Aerials, consisting of the “Gimbal Bee,” “Hummer Lite,” and “Hummingbird” drones. The three drones are capable of 4K video capture, but will be transmitting footage in 1080p. Fox says that only one drone will be in the air at a given time, selecting each drone to capture footage based on its unique strengths and what is needed from production at the time.

According to Engadget, the drones will join a production system for the World Series that includes 52 cameras, including an overhead FlyCam, 13 Super Motion cameras, and three RF cameras, with audio being captured by over 100 microphones positioned throughout the stadium.
