Reminder: Google Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, Nest Secure will stop working on Monday

Google has reached out to eligible users with offers towards newer products

Google has issued its final reminder that it is ending support for several home security products on Monday, April 8th. Last year the company announced that Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure will no longer function when support ends, and users are urged to update their systems. Google has stated that they have reached out to affected users with special offers towards updating to newer products:

  • Eligible Nest Secure users were emailed an offer for a Self Setup System from ADT on us (up to $485 value) or $200 to use on the Google Store. Offer can be redeemed until May 7th, 2024.
  • On April 8, 2024, Nest Guard will no longer be able to connect your Nest x Yale Lock to Wi-Fi. You must replace your Nest Guard with a Nest Connect. If you don’t take action before April 7, 2024, your lock will go offline and not work via the Nest app until a Nest Connect is installed.
  • Eligible Dropcam and Dropcam Pro users were emailed an offer towards a Nest Cam (indoor, wired). Nest Cam is part of our next generation of cameras with more helpful features like HDR and built-in intelligence. The offer can be redeemed until May 7th, 2024.
  • Your Dropcam and Dropcam Pro video history will be available for a limited amount of time, the timing is based on your Nest Aware subscription version and tier (which ranges from 5 to 60 days).

The following was originally published April 12, 2023:

Google has announced that they are axing support for Dropcam and several older Nest products. While most of these products have already been phased out of availability, legacy support meant that those who owned them could still use them for their intended functions.

Google’s announcement notes that Dropcam and Nest Secure servers will be shut down on April 8, 2024, meaning the devices will no longer be able to function, with Google stating, “All features will remain available until April 8, 2024. Dropcam will no longer work after that date, and you will no longer be able to use your Nest app to check status. If you wish to keep your video history, please download and save before this date.”

The company also noted that any products in the “Works With Nest” ecosystem will be shutting down September 29, 2023.

Dropcam and Nest Secure owners shouldn’t feel too slighted, though, as Google is offering discounts to legacy owners so that they can upgrade to something more recent. Owners will be able to score a wired indoor Nest Cam for free if they are subscribers to Nest Aware. Otherwise, Google is offering a 50% discount on the camera.
