In addition to a suite of other products that Google is discontinuing, the Jamboard is officially getting the axe. The company’s digital whiteboard was introduced in 2016, positioned to be a presentation and collaboration tool for education and conferencing purposed. The 55-inch touchscreen was integrated with Google Workspace to allow easy access to documents, and a mobile app was even launched to let remote partners collaborate on the board.

The company announced that the Jamboard product is shutting down in late 2024, which not only means the $5000 device (and its $600 yearly subscription) will no longer be available, but its software and cloud-based apps will be terminated. This will no doubt be a shock to institutions that purchased the whiteboard, and the company seems to be attempting to ease the pain by allowing Jamboard users to tranfer their projects to other devices. In the announcement, Google states,
“We’re grateful to the consumers, educators, students, and businesses who have used Jamboard since its launch in 2016. While Jamboard users make up a small portion of our Workspace customer base, we understand that this change will impact some of you, and we’re committed to helping you transition by:
1. Deeply integrating the whiteboarding tools you know and love like FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miro across Workspace, so you can include them when scheduling in Calendar, collaborating in Meet, or sharing content in Drive
2. Bringing these whiteboarding solutions to the Series One Board 65 and Desk 27 devices by Avocor, so you can visually collaborate using a physical device and stylus
3. Providing a retention and migration path for Jamboard data so you don’t lose any of the collaborative work that’s been created within your organization”
