A group of Disneyland guests got a rare look at the Haunted Mansion ride with the lights on. On May 27, the ride suddenly stopped, trapping riders in their ‘Doom Buggies’ as instructions were given over the attraction’s loudspeaker system for guests to remain seated.
Standard procedure would be for guests to remain where they are until employees are able to escort them safely off the ride. However, after some time, the trapped riders were told to leave without any further assistance.

“After about 10 minutes, the message changed, stating that the cast members could no longer assist us and to go ahead and squeeze out of our buggies and find the nearest exit,” one rider wrote on Reddit, sharing a video of the bizarre experience.
Footage from the event shows guests wandering around the attraction’s fully-lit cemetery area before evacuating the ride entirely.
Disneyland told the Orange County Register that the event was caused by a “small electrical malfunction,” per WDW News Today. All guests made their way off the track safely and no injuries were reported.
