Design firm ICRAVE reveals new details about the Sphere’s interior

ICRAVE helped lead interior, wayfinding and lighting design for public spaces in the next-generation venue

Sphere Entertainment and design firm ICRAVE have jointly announced new details about the interiors of the Sphere in Las Vegas.

“Every aspect of Sphere was designed to create an experience that transports audiences to new places,” said Paul Westbury, Executive Vice President, Development and Construction, Sphere Entertainment. “To complement that vision, ICRAVE was a true partner, blending Sphere’s distinctive architectural and structural elements with sophisticated lighting and interior design to create an experience that takes guests from simply being in a venue in Las Vegas to feeling like they have entered a new world.”

ICRAVE set out to bring an “ethereal atmosphere” to the 300,000 square feet of the Sphere’s interior spaces, which is spread across eight levels including the Atrium, food and beverage locations, expo spaces, 23 hospitality suites, and more. For the Atrium, ICRAVE chose to utilize uninterrupted columns and intersecting columns to build anticipation. Continuous black terrazzo flooring and convex ceilings complement the programmable lighting that is integrated into the Atrium’s columns.

Architectural lighting is a foundational principle for the Sphere’s interior designed, which ICRAVE says enhances the main stage act and promotes the immersive feel of the building. Reflecting flooring and intersecting curved surfaces invoke a sense of movement so that visitors are immersed in a sense of perpetual motion.

“We needed the surrounding spaces to live up to the promise of what’s inside the bowl and to ensure guests feel a seamless connection to the venue before even taking their seat for a show,” says Lionel Ohayon, Founder and CEO of ICRAVE and Co-Founder of Journey. “The design of Sphere clearly delineates and accentuates the moment one leaves the default world and enters the venue, a place like nowhere else in the world.”
