Mitsubishi Debuts 3D Projectors
At CEDIA Expo last week, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America’s Presentation Products Division showed off its new $1,495 HC4000 high-definition home theater projector, as well as its Diamond 3D 1080p full HD projector.

Mitsubishi HC4000
Mitsubishi’s new HC4000 projector uses Texas Instruments’ latest 1080p DLP chip, the DarkChip 3 with BrilliantColor and delivers 1,300 lumens at up to a 750:1 ANSI.
“We start with a low initial investment and back it with a low total cost of ownership over the life of the projector,” said Wayne Kozuki, product marketing manager at Mitsubishi’s Presentation Products Division, in a statement.
The projector support 2.35:1 aspect ratio films through positioning a separate anamorphic lens and selecting the appropriate Anamorphic Mode 1 or Mode 2, for either 2.35:1 or 16:9 aspect ratios. The HC4000 has an estimated 5,000-hour lamp life in low-conservation mode and a filter-free, semi-sealed design. Its engine is rated at just 25dBA in low mode, according to company officials.
Mitsubishi’s new Diamond 3D projector can display video over 100-inch screens and is powered by an SXRD reflective liquid-crystal optical engine. Mitsubishi said it then adds its own algorithms and processing technologies to create high-brightness, high-contrast (up to 120,000:1 full on/full off) images that are true to the original content.

Mitsubishi said it has incorporated extra-low dispersion glass into its six-piece, 17-cluster lens structure for higher functionality that minimizes chromatic aberration. With an auto-iris function, the Diamond 3D automatically sets the optimal aperture according to each scene, and its 120Hz refresh rate produces smooth transitions. An independent management function allows adjustment to color characteristics such as hue, intensity and brightness individually (red, green, cyan, magenta and yellow), without affecting the other colors, according to the company.
At only 19dBa, the Diamond 3D projector is extremely quiet, so viewers can easily hear the video. Two HDMI version 1.4 inputs support 3D signals and RS-232 support allows third-party remote operation.
