Sixth Annual Legacy Awards Networking Reception at the 2015 International CES to Honor the Achievements of Women Making A Difference in the Industry
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dec. 18, 2014 — Women in Consumer Electronics (CE), an industry organization that promotes the advancement of women in the CE industry, today announced the recipients of its 2015 Legacy Awards, which include top-level executives from the retail, entertainment, journalism, software, and manufacturing sectors. Six remarkable women will be recognized at the organization’s annual event, which takes place during the 2015 International CES.
2015 Legacy Award Honorees:
– Amy College, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Best Buy
– Amy Jo Smith, President, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group
– Andrea Smith, Freelance Journalist and Television Producer
– Nasrin Thierer, Founder and CEO of Revenew, Inc.
– Inspiration Award: Michelle Troupe, A/V Buyer, Definitive Audio
– Woman to Watch: Lauren Theobald, Marketing Communications Manager, Milestone AV Technologies
“Our members continue to inspire us with their contributions to the consumer electronics industry,” said Carol Campbell, founder of Women in CE. “The 2015 honorees are leaders that have displayed a sustained commitment to innovation, growth, and continuous improvement within a broad range of industry areas. We’re also excited to celebrate our rising ‘Woman to Watch’ star, as well as pay tribute to our Inspiration Award recipient for her immeasurable contributions to our organization.”
The Women in CE Class of 2015 will be honored at a reception during the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas at 8 p.m. on Jan. 6, preceded by a cocktail hour at 7 p.m. The Master of Ceremonies will be Deena Ghazarian, SVP of Global Sales and Finance at Monster Products, Inc. Amy College, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Best Buy
As the head of merchandising at Best Buy, overseeing home theater, Magnolia, digital imaging, and entertainment (gaming, movies, and music), Amy College leads by example. Her tireless work ethic, integrity, and business acumen have supported her rise over her 17-year career at Best Buy. During her tenure, she has held positions in inventory management, vendor management, and merchandising across numerous categories, including computing, digital imaging, and home theater.

Amy Jo Smith, President, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group
Amy Jo Smith serves as president of DEG, the leading trade group for the home entertainment industry representing the interests of 60 of the world’s largest entertainment companies, consumer electronics manufacturers, online retailers, and software firms. A former White House communications advisor, Smith has led the industry-funded group’s efforts to enhance and promote home entertainment during its wholesale evolution from videocassettes to DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and today’s digital age. Since 1997, Smith’s leadership at DEG is credited with helping to make DVD the fastest growing consumer electronics product in industry history. In 2007, Smith was the recipient of the Visionary Award presented by Home Media Magazine and Hollywood Reporter and was inducted into the Video Hall of Fame in 2009. Since 2005, she has been included every year on the annual Video Business’ Women Elite list. A University of Pennsylvania graduate, Smith serves on the board of the Tom Sherak MS Hope Foundation.

Andrea Smith, Freelance Journalist and Television Producer
Andrea Smith is an award-winning journalist who has been writing about family and consumer technology for nearly two decades. Formerly a technology producer at ABC News and the Lifestyle Tech Channel Editor at Mashable, Smith is currently the executive producer and host of CE Week TV, as well as executive producer and host of MommyTech TV. Smith also does corporate media training and appears as a guest expert in technology segments on CNBC, ABC News, and ABC-affiliated radio and TV stations across the U.S.

Nasrin Thierer, Founder and CEO of Revenew, Inc.
An innovative leader and experienced entrepreneur, Nasrin Thierer has a proven track record of building new businesses and optimizing distribution channels. She has launched many successful businesses from the ground up, most recently Revenew, a cloud-based distributed marketing automation platform that helps brands localize their marketing and increase the effectiveness of their co-op and MDF spend. The foundation for her marketing and business management experience was built in the telecom, wireless, and consumer electronics industries. Prior to her entrepreneurial career, Thierer held a broad spectrum of senior business management, technology, and marketing roles at Motorola. Over her 22-year career at Motorola, she led multiple strategic initiatives to deliver growth, chart new paths, and start new businesses, including Motorola’s first consumer two-way radio. As an active member of the Chicago community, Thierer sits on the board and takes part in the marketing committee of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She is also a member of the Chicago Executive Club and the Chicago Entrepreneurial Center (CEC), which drives growth and success for startups. Thierer graduated from University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer design and received her MBA in marketing and finance from Nova Southeastern University.

Carol Campbell Inspiration Award: Michelle Troupe, Audio/Video Buyer, Definitive Audio
Michelle Troupe has recently celebrated her 20th anniversary at Definitive Audio. Originally hired in the accounting department, Troupe has been the company’s buyer for the past 15 years. She relishes the daily challenges of working for a mid-sized company — juggling all aspects of procurement, marketing, inventory, and events. Troupe specifically enjoys working for Mark Ormiston and Craig Abplanalp, who have placed a great deal of faith in her by granting her the autonomy throughout her career that has allowed her to flourish within the company. Troupe joined the Women in CE Mentoring Program in 2010 after completing four years of being a Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Pacific Northwest program. She takes great pleasure in helping others and being a part of organizations that give back to people and their local communities.

Woman to Watch: Lauren Theobald, Marketing Communications Manager, Milestone AV Technology
Lauren Theobald heads up the communications department at SANUS, home of the No. 1-selling brand of TV mounts in the U.S. She is a multifaceted marketer with traditional and non-traditional multichannel marketing experience in the CE industry. Her passion is to communicate the brand and the product in a savvy, creative way through strategic digital marketing initiatives. Theobald is passionate about design and home décor, and aligning products to fit within that space to make it function better, safely, and more beautifully.
