Cynthia Wisehart on SVC

Welcome to our redesign of SVC. More of a refresh actually. We wanted to make the print magazine more tech-friendly so we could include more visual information, and it was well past time for some new colors. I’ll also be adding some new types of stories and curated content.

I also thought it was a chance to draw attention to the wider platform of SVC. Specifically, I want everyone to be aware of the SVC Pro AV Today newsletter (as excerpted on page 10). This long-standing newsletter (sometimes referred to as Why This Matters) is something I’m proud of. My colleague Derek Wiley and I try to make it fun and relevant and give you good reason to open it, as we are all too aware of how inbox clutter can feel. It definitely keeps me up on trends to hunt down the daily stream of information.

I’m also sharing some of the long form content I’m reading for what it’s worth. Again, trying to stay connected with fast moving technical trends in the wider world that come back to us. I also like to see what associations and standards bodies are up to since so many of the people involved give so much to the efforts and painstakingly contribute to the evolution of technology. It’s something I’ve been aware of ever since I went to my first Motion Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) meeting in the ‘90s

’ll also continue to feature content from the TheWire@SVConline. This self-publishing platform is open to anyone in the AV industry upon request. If you’d like to participate for your business, to talk about products, projects, or ideas, and especially if you are an integrator or consultant, just register at www. svconline.com/wp-admin.

I’m going to use this chance to reintroduce my colleague Bennett Liles who is a longtime AV guy at Clayton State University in Morrow, GA. He has been my right arm on product coverage for many years and continues to use his field experience to roundup options for new and stalwart products.

Also in these pages, you’ll be hearing from Eric Wenocur. He’s the Owner/ Principal of Lab Tech Systems, has been involved with professional audio and video since 1980 (even before me!). He started in music recording with multitrack tape (didn’t everyone?) and moved into television facility engineering. He’s has worked with decades of equipment and technologies used in the creation, processing, and delivery of images and sound. He does design, installation, concepts, floorplans, equipment spec, and signal flow. He is proud of his soldering.

I will continue to be on the lookout for more tech voices. Feel free to reach out. I hope you enjoy the beginning of this refresh. Look forward to seeing you at InfoComm.
