Broadcast monitor supplier Flanders Scientific is looking to shake things up in Hollywood by announcing their XMP550 QD-OLED Mastering Monitor, which they are positioning as a new approach for film mastering. Built using Samsung Display’s 2023 QD-OLED panel, meaning there is a good chance film studios will begin using the same displays to master their films that consumers readily have access to.
“Flanders Scientific is pleased to introduce the new XMP550, a 55″ UHD resolution professional HDR Mastering Monitor built around a groundbreaking new QD-OLED panel featuring 2,000nits peak luminance, 2,000,000:1 contrast, and our widest color gamut to date,” said Flanders Scientific. “The XMP550 brings an end to the days of compromising between smaller reference grade HDR displays and larger non-reference client displays. The XMP550 delivers the best of both worlds with truly reference grade performance and professional connectivity in a form factor large enough for both colorists and clients to view at the same time.”

According to flatpanelshd, some studios already use consumer OLED TVs as secondary displays to check how their footage will look when watched at home. Flanders Scientific’s new monitor should help continue to bridge that gap, ensuring that home viewers will be able to watch their favorite films and series the way their creators intended.
