Sharp is the third brand to offer QD-OLED TVs

Sharp is following Samsung and Sony’s lead with the announcement of four upcoming high-end TVs that utilize QD-OLED and WOLED panels. This makes the company the third ever to offer QD-OLED TVs. TCL and Philips have shown interest in Samsung’s QD-OLED panels, but have yet to pull the trigger with an official launch. While Sharp previously was a market leader in LCD panel production, stiff competition from Korean companies have forced the company’s hand to seek partnerships in the OLED market. The new QD-OLED and WOLED offerings help differentiate the brand from most of its competitors.

The four upcoming models, the FS1 line (55 and 65 inch 4K QD-OLED) and FQ1 line (55 and 65 inch 4K WOLED) are launching exclusively in Japan this Fall, though at CES this year Sharp announced that they will be bringing several of their high-end lines to the US market. The addition of Google TV to the models leaves some to speculate that they are preparing for an international launch.
