Google has recently announced that they will be introducing a new feature to Google Meet, beginning with mobile devices and then to the web client later this year. The company claims the new feature, called “portrait touch-up,” has been highly requested by users.
Portrait touch-up will “lightly touch up your appearance” on video calls, in an effort to give users more confidence and comfort when presenting on screen. The feature will be available in two modes that users can toggle, though it will have to be manually enabled, as portrait touch-up will be turned off by default. The two modes users will have available to them are:
- Subtle: very light complexion smoothing, under eye lightening and eye whitening.
- Smoothing: slightly more complexion smoothing, under eye lightening and eye whitening.

Google has begun introducing the feature to early Workspace adopters on mobile devices, with an extended rollout to other accounts on mobile devices beginning October 28. As for the web version of Google Meet, the company says that the feature will be available “by the end of 2023.” Notably, portrait touch-up will only be available to Business, Education, and Workspace accounts, not to personal Google accounts.
