Samsung TVs to retroactively lose Google Assistant

All Samsung Smart TVs to lose Google Assistant access beginning March 2024

Saying “hey, Google” to Samsung TVs will soon be a thing of the past due to a change in Google’s policies. This change affects not only TVs on which owners have installed the software, but to all TVs that came loaded with Google Assistant from the factory. This means all Samsung Smart TVs made in 2020, 2021, and 2022 will lose the Assistant feature on March 1st, 2024.

“Important: Due to a change in Google’s policy, Google Assistant will no longer be available on Samsung TVs beginning March 1st, 2024,” Samsung announced this weekend. The electronics manufacturer must have known this change was on the horizon, as Google Assistant was not included in its 2023 Smart TV lineup.

Meta Quest devices now support spatial video

This leaves users with two options: Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant, is still supported on Samsung TVs, but requires a stand-alone Alexa device. Samsung’s branded voice assistant Bixby is supported, but is only available in certain languages, making it not ideal for some owners.
