Samsung T9 SSD doubles speeds of predecessor

The T9 offers 4GB full HD video transfer in two seconds

Samsung has announced a new portable solid state drive (SSD), which offers a big upgrade to their popular T7 SSD. The new T9 SSD reportedly offers read and write speeds that are twice as fast as its predecessor, with the company noting it can transfer a 4GB Full HD video in nearly two seconds or an hour and half-long 4K video (21GB) within 12 seconds.

Intel introduces Thunderbolt 5, tripling top speeds of Thunderbolt 4

The T9 utilizes the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, which Samsung says “enables two lanes of 10 Gbps operation to provide 20 Gbps data transfer rates which delivers faster speeds when transferring high-resolution videos or large files.”

The T9 features an aluminum construction with a rubber coating, which Samsung says allows it to withstand drops up to nine feet and keep functioning normally. The company also says its aluminum and silicon construction provides ample heat dissipation to ensure high workloads won’t affect the drive.

The T9 SSD is available now in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB options. Retail pricing is $140 for the 1TB model, $240 for 2TB, and $440 for 4TB.
