Panamax MAX™ 5300-PM Chosen for ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ Exhibition at Biltmore™

PETALUMA, Calif. — July 29, 2008 —

Panamax, a world-leading provider of AC power management solutions, today announced that its MAXâ„¢ 5300-PM power management system has been installed at the historic Biltmoreâ„¢ in Asheville, N.C., to enhance video quality and provide power protection for a Blu-ray presentation. As part of the “If These Walls Could Talk” exhibition, the video showcases conservators at work and the care that goes into preserving America’s largest home.

The exhibition reveals how museum services staff preserve the incredible history of Biltmore by providing a snapshot into the newest restoration project of the Damask Room, the Claude Room, the Tyrolean Chimney Room, and the Louis XV Room. As part of the exhibit, the family-owned company produced a Blu-ray video that showcases the estate’s restoration and preservation efforts, to be shown in the Louis XVI bedroom of Biltmore House.

To install the components for the presentation, Biltmore hired Comtecâ„¢, an Asheville-based designer, seller, and installer of electronic systems including home theater, music and video distribution, computerized lighting control, home automation, and more.

“When installing the components for Biltmore, we really didn’t know what to expect in terms of power. The infrastructure is very old, and there are no other electronics running in the house,” said Adam Eberhardt, senior systems design consultant for Comtec. “We determined that we needed comprehensive power management because we not only had to protect the A/V equipment from uncertainties, but we had to make sure that the picture was absolutely perfect, the highest of high-definition. And we had to do this in a very limited space. We went with the Panamax MAX 5300-PM, which offered the performance and small form factor we needed.”

Panamax’s MAX 5300-PM offers power cleaning and Linear Filtration Technology (LiFT) to eliminate the common symptoms of contaminated power, including loss of details and other visual artifacts, leaving visitors with an optimal high-definition viewing experience. In addition, the MAX 5300-PM’s isolated outlet banks prevent noise created by one component from contaminating the power going to another component.

To protect components, Panamax’s patent pending Automatic Voltage Monitoring (AVM) circuitry continuously monitors the incoming power as displayed on the digital voltmeter. In case of an undervoltage or an overvoltage, the power to the connected equipment is automatically turned off, and is automatically reconnected when voltage returns to a safe level.

“Biltmore has a long and rich history, and it is an honor to have our MAX 5300-PM chosen to help bring its story to visitors,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Panamax and Furman. “With its advanced linear filtration and Automatic Voltage Monitoring, the MAX 5300-PM will bring the highest quality images to visitors and ensure the longevity of the A/V components.”
